Writing Prompts

Here are a few writing prompts that we have used in "Writing Retreat."  Take at least 15 minutes to sit with one of the prompts below.  If it helps, set a timer.  Writing prompts are only to get you started.  If you discover that after a few minutes your thoughts are steering you somewhere else, go with it.  Try to allow yourself the freedom of honesty.  Don't worry about what someone else would think of it.

When you are done: keep it, burn it, tear it up, or bury it in the ground.
What you write is for you.

"If I could write a book it would be..."

"What stresses me most..."

"I remember..."

"I never want to forget..."

"When I was 8-years-old..."

"Once when I was in a car..."

Write about your mental "happy place."

Look outside.  What do you see?

Write about something that you notice in the room.

"When I grow up..."

"Yesterday, I..."

Write about your day so far.

Write a letter that you will never send.

What color is hunger?

What would you change about yourself if you could?

Write about your birth father.
